the project

The small, north facing. overgrown garden sloped down to the towpath on the River Thames in Caversham in Berkshire. There was nowhere to sit nor easy access to the client’s moored boat.

The new design created level terraces for dining an lounging. A relaxed sofa set was sunken to give privacy. Riven sandstone paving and oak sleepers were used to keep within budget, with a strong horizontal design making the space appear larger. Planting was designed to cope with the shady conditions. The design looked good from the first floor balcony and living area of the three storey house.
